Damijan Kracina : STATEMENT N2

Education and technologies

My basic education is classical study of sculpture and postgraduate study of video and new media at Academy for Fine Arts in Ljubljana. I visited several self-improvement courses and studies in new media, video, 3D computer animation, interactive use of multimedia, web design and web programming. My idea and wish is to have complete control over technologies used in my art works. Technologies which are used in my art (classical sculpture and painting techniques, video, computers, internet, electronic..) are just mediums for carrying ideas and statements. They don't have artistic values by themselves.

Influences

I've been active present in Slovene art scene almost 10 years (I started my study in 1992, I finished my postgraduate study in 1999). I participated at several important exhibitions and art projects in Slovenia, over Europe and elsewhere. I visited lot of main art-events and exhibitions all over Europe. During few months living in USA I have visited many art- festivals and exhibitions, but my bigest artistic satisfaction was visit of Marcel Duchamp room in Museum of Art in Philadelphia. In those last 10 years I have been most enthusiastic with artworks of Bernini, Joseph Beuys, DADA, Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman and Damian Hirst and also slovenian sculptor Lujo Vodopivec.
Influence on my art production is not only by mentioned artist and art movements, but mainly comes from zoology and nature.

Main interes

For several years I have been reserching of a new relationship beetwen human and nature. What fascinate me is an interdependence of all living kinds. Main interes of my work is to lay stress on meaning of extinction of some life form for all universe.

I think that local extinction is a global lose.

I've been working on documenting, revisting and researching of facts about some animal kinds. And I've been trying to translate those facts and results to language and form which is understedandable to art-world, in which I'm also part of.
I'm planing and trying to establish "ZOO garden for extinct, endangered and new species".
